Jane E. Robbins
Jane E. Robbins is a pastel painter living in Rhode Island and the featured artist on the Manion’s Vanilla website. She began painting after a long career as a management professor, consultant and entrepreneur. Jane and I met at the Wickford Art Association in North Kingstown, RI on January 12, 2019. That Saturday afternoon, my husband and I took a drive to see the association’s new exhibit. As luck and serendipity works, Jane was the artist in residence that welcomed us that blustery January day near the ocean.
During my visit I came upon a beautiful pastel painting print of a mixer that captivated my attention. I felt an intimate connection with this artful image because of my background as a baker and the way the painting conveyed a narrative quality I related to from the way I use my own mixer.
Jane noticed the attraction I had to this painting and came over to let me know it was her work, and also to let us now that the original had just sold. From there a conversation sparked about her work as an artist, her passion for the culinary arts (as deep as my own!), and her other paintings with themes of Food, Kitchen, Restaurants and Bars.
Since that day, Jane and I have become fast friends. Over the last year, she has shared advice that has been invaluable. Deep conversations at oceanfront hangouts in Narragansett, RI like the lawn at Turtle Soup in Narraganset, RI sipping Negronis will always be part of the lore of Manion’s Vanilla beginnings.
For the launch of Manion’s Vanilla in 2020, Jane generously offered to let me feature her artwork on this website. When you pursue the recipe categories of BAKE, DRINK and COOK, those are all Jane E. Robbin’s paintings. Dive deeper into Jane’s art work by reading an article I wrote about her on my beach blog, Green Hill Rocks. Or, go direct to Jane’s website to learn about her upcoming exhibits, paintings for sale, open studio hours, and art classes she teaches periodically throughout the year.
